Daniel Leary is a lieutenant in the Cinnabar Navy with no money and no prospects. Adele Mundy is a scholar whose family was massacred by the government of Cinnabar. In a few hours, diplomacy is going to fail on the planet Kostroma. Daniel, Adele, and the scratch crew they gather aren't much to stand in the way of a powerful invasion fleet, but just possibly they're enough.

Well, what to do? Your family has been eradicated (legally), your home is gone, your money is low, your not real fond of people, and your true skill is as a librarian. The answer... go off planet and try to set up a new life for yourself. Well that was the plan anyway. So, what could go wrong? Better ask what could go right. Enter a young Lieutenant, his butler, a party of space marines, a spy (really nasty), and a civil war. Some days a girl shouldn’t get out of bed. I like this author and I enjoyed the story. No romance, but enough action and adventure to keep your interest and characters that you either love, hate, or remind you of family.
