Keladry of Mindelan has finally achieved her life-long dream of being a knight. But it's not turning out as she imagined at all. She is torn between a duty she has sworn and a quest that she feels could turn the tide of the war.

Once more we enter Tortall, and once more we met Kel, now a lady knight. While in the Chamber of the Ordeal she was charged with finding and destroying the "nothing man". War is eminent. With the Queen’s Own and the regular army, Kel and her friends head toward the border with Scanra. Not just to fight the regular army, but large magic constructs bearing the souls of children. This is a coming of age book, but more than that it is a call to look at not jut the nature of violence, but the price everyone pays. Kel must meet this price and preserve her honor even if it means losing her life as a traitor. I was glad to find out that this will not end as a trilogy, but give us one more book with not only a fascinating young woman as heroine, but tell a story whose places and people we’ve come to care about. I recommend this book for everyone, especially our teenage readers.
