FREEDOM'S RANSOM

When Kris Bjornsen and her fellow slaves were dumped on an uninhabited planet by the alien Catteni overlords, they almost died--but survived on the planet they named Botany, only to have their freedom threatened again by desperate refugees.

Some time ago Ms. McCaffrey did a trilogy regarding the war between Humans and Catteni. The main focus was on a mixed group of persons (human and alien) who were dropped on a planet that they called Botany. Thru the three books we learned of their struggle not only to stay alive, but to live as well as they could. At the end of series our colonists were not only alive and well, but doing well and free from there former masters. One of the things about the series is that in my estimation it was not complete. Call me greedy, but I wanted to know what they did with their freedom and frankly, how they were doing in general. Ms. McCaffrey must have felt the same way because Freedom’s Ransom was written to answer these questions. In this book we learn what our friends have been doing and what the state of their expanded universe is in. One of the questions answered is how Earth is coping after the devastation of the war. This is not a pretty sight, but I felt had a real ring of what might be. For those of you, who like me, always wanted to know more, here is at least a partial answer.
