This is book three of the Circle Opens series. The series stems from a quartet entitled the Circle Of Magic. I highly recommend reading the quartet first.
Daja Kisubo and her teacher Frostpine travel to the cold port city of Kugisko to study other smiths and to visit Frostpine’s long time friends. Soon Daja discovers two twin mages and must teach them meditation. Then, fires begin to rage across the city built mostly of wood. She helps a local firefighter and the two become friends. When she realizes that the fires are being deliberately set, Daja’s magic helps her track down the fire starter. But she may not like what she finds.
