Molly Marx Brent

(Author Contributed)

Molly Marx Brent

I was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi in November of 1937. I grew up one block from the house where I was born.

It is not by accident that Dunn Berry resembles Hazlehurst.

(The brick streets, fountain and packing sheds are there, everything else including the characters, exist only the author's imagination)

I spent summers with an uncle in Biloxi, Mississippi. Two days after graduating from Hazlehurst High School in 1956, I moved to New Orleans with the intentions of going to Tulane.

In 1957 I did have a few claims to fame. I won the Miss Ponchatrain Beach Beauty Contest and I had several pictures in national magazines. Instead of college and a career, I got my MRS instead.

In the early sixties, I was divorced and moved to Jackson, Mississippi. I worked for Mississippi Valley Gas as a bookkeeper until I remarried in 1965.

My husband, Ted, worked for Schlumberger and we were transferred several times.

We lived in Natchez for 8 years and Pensacola, Florida for 8 years before moving to Laurel. I also attended Pensacola Junior College

There Ain't Enough Front Porches is my first book. I wrote it while recovering from a heart attack. At night when I was unable to sleep, I would escape into my fantasy world.

I wrote satire until my husband retired. (That's when murder first entered my mind)

I am a devout animal lover. (Especially pit bull dogs and greyhounds.) I love the casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and play three card poker there several times a week.

Some of my favorite people are Bobby Bowden, the coach for Florida State football, Barbara Bush and Della Reese. I am a fan of N' Sync because Lance Bass is from Laurel. His aunt is one of my best friends. I am not at all talented but I love music. My favorite Album is Della Reese Sings The Classics.

I have one grown daughter, Elizabeth.

I live in Laurel with my husband Ted.

More About Molly

We thought you might want to know a little bit more about Molly Marx Brent, and felt we could help you keep track of her by providing some links and updates here at the bottom of her profile page. Right now, Molly is actively promoting her new book, THERE AIN'T ENOUGH FRONT PORCHES. Beyond contacting us here at the Ridiculous Book Store and having her profile put up at our web site, she has also agreed to host a book signing as soon as the book is printed and distributed. We'll keep you posted and let you know when you can expect to meet her at the store, and get your copy signed.

Molly met us on one of her frequent trips to the Mississippi Coast. She also met managed to arrange an interview with our local ABC Network Affiliate, WLOX in Biloxi, Mississippi. In between aranging the book signing and promotion with us, she manages to get set up for both television exposure for her work, and newspaper exposure as well. Look for her story in the SunHerald newspaper soon!

On top of all that, she still managed to spend some time at the local casino row. Not only did she manage to win (or at least break even) at the card tables, she ran into one of her favorite entertainers, Bobby Vee. Below are some snapshots she had made while at the casinos.

Mind you, she also managed to get the casino managers to talk about promoting her book, and perhaps even posting some of her works as prizes. We hope to see more of Molly in the coming weeks as her release date closes in. You can keep up with the progress at this page, or on the links below.
